Mustang Generations and Parts Fitment: Find the Right Parts for Your Build

Posted by Motor City Mustang on Sep 30th 2026

Shopping for Mustang performance parts starts with your model year. Your generation helps narrow the catalog, while your engine, trim, transmission and existing modifications determine which parts fit.

Find your Mustang generation

Model years Catalog category
1964½–1973 First-generation Mustang
1974–1978 Mustang II
1979–1993 Fox Body
1994–2004 SN95, including New Edge
2005–2014 S197
2015–2023 S550
2024 onward S650
Mustang Mach-E Separate vehicle platform

Generation categories are a starting point. Always check the individual product’s application before ordering.

Check more than the model year

Have these details ready when comparing parts:

  • Engine: displacement, engine family and any swap.
  • Trim: GT, EcoBoost, Shelby or another model.
  • Transmission: manual or automatic, plus the transmission model when required.
  • Existing modifications: changed axles, spindles, suspension, wheels or brakes.

Two Mustangs from the same year can require different parts.

Read the fitment exclusions

Pay attention to phrases such as “except GT350,” “with Performance Package,” or “original calipers only.” These details define the application.

For brake upgrades, confirm wheel clearance and the specified spindle, axle and lug configuration. For gauges, check dashboard years, wiring and sender requirements. For engine-swap components, verify the engine and transmission combination.

Keep Mach-E parts separate

Mustang Mach-E uses a different platform from the Mustang coupe and convertible. Choose products specifically listed for your Mach-E model year and configuration.

Shop with your build in mind

Start in your Mustang generation category, then choose the part category you need. Read the fitment notes and included components before adding a product to your cart.
